Proprioception

Where am I? Sometimes I look around and wonder where in the heck I am. I know I'm on earth and I can tell I'm at home or wherever but I wonder about it all coming together. The daily grind of family, home, work, school, ect.... Is all of this coming together? Am I too close to it all to even see?

When We practice yoga there is a concept called proprioception. Proprioception is awareness of where our bodies are in space. It works by receptors in our bodies under our skin (like muscles, tendons and joints) giving information to our brains about where our body parts are. But it takes lots of practice to "get" it.

I'm grateful today that I know from past experience that much of life is shown to me on my mat. I know that I am still wiling to practice triangle pose; even though I've been practicing it for 8 years. I continue to practice and to tap into my powers of proprioception for ever more refined alignment daily. I am willing to practice this for the rest of my life.....and enjoy doing it. It is do simple and clear. I have faith that as I practice alignment becomes more and more precise and brings to my body more and more health.

As I use principles of form and technique I am not really sure if my shoulders are aligned Just right or if my foundation is just so, or if my hips are in the best place for my body. The pose just seems to continually come together. Still daily, I practice and wait to see what insight comes to me.

I get that life is like practicing poses. There are principles of form and technique that I can use. I believe in compassion, acceptance, service, community, non harming, non violence, and more.

Sometimes, still, I wonder where I am....

So as I do on my mat, I return to practice and let that wondering pass and wait for more insight to come.....
